In the heart of Mayfair sits London’s oldest luxury hotel, a Forbes 5-star establishment visited by Rudyard Kipling, Franklin Roosevelt, Mahatma Gandhi and Princess Diana.

The project comprised the phased refurbishment of guestrooms, bathrooms and circulation areas throughout the hotel, together with the creation of a number of new signature suites. Works included the refurbishment of 27 guestrooms and lounges, incorporating redecorations, FCU replacements and new FF&E, alongside the refurbishment of 99 guest bathrooms with new plumbing installations, Arabescato marble finishes and high-quality sanitaryware.

The programme also included the refurbishment of corridors and stairwells to designs by Paolo Moschino, featuring new carpets, wall and ceiling panelling, fire-rated doors and upgraded fire and smoke damper systems. A number of bespoke suites were created as part of the works, including the Paul Smith Grand Suite, formed from the conversion of two existing guestrooms, together with the Clementi Suite, Clara Dow Suite and Nightingale Suite.

Externally, works comprised the repair and redecoration of the Dover Street façade, replacement mansard roof slates and installation of secondary glazing. Full-access scaffolding, including a hoist and lifting beam, was erected to facilitate the works.

All works were delivered within a live hotel environment, requiring careful phasing, logistics management and coordination with hotel operations to minimise disruption to guests.
