The regeneration of Grimsby’s Freshney Place shopping centre is transforming an outdated and unwelcoming retail destination into a modern, accessible and vibrant town centre.
The scheme will create a contemporary mixed-use destination, bringing together retail, leisure, healthcare and community spaces. Designed to increase footfall, attract inward investment and support long-term economic growth, the development will play a key role in the ongoing regeneration of the port town.
Initial demolition and enabling works are being followed by significant new-build elements, including a contemporary market hall, commercial and leisure units, a new cinema, a redesigned public square, and enhanced façades and frontages. The scheme also incorporates extensive hard and soft landscaping to create a vibrant pedestrianised environment, alongside the transformation of the existing multi-storey car park structure into a modern market and street food destination.
The development sits adjacent to listed buildings on three sides, while part of the existing structure incorporates a public art mural that will be retained. Archaeological investigations have also uncovered significant medieval remains, providing a valuable insight into Grimsby’s history and reinforcing the importance of preserving heritage assets while shaping the town’s future.
