Following the collapse of the original contractor in 2018, Midland Metropolitan University Hospital required a complex procurement and delivery strategy to bring one of the UK’s largest healthcare developments to completion. WT supported the Trust throughout the re-procurement and delivery process, providing commercial and cost management expertise to help manage risk, maintain value for money and ensure continuity on a nationally significant healthcare project.
The scheme faced a number of challenges, including a highly competitive regional construction market, extensive stakeholder scrutiny and the need to maintain confidence across the project team and supply chain. Working closely with the Trust and key stakeholders, WT helped establish robust commercial controls and supported the successful transition from the original contract arrangements through to the appointment of a new delivery partner.
The completed hospital provides state-of-the-art acute, emergency and specialist healthcare facilities, delivering improved patient care and modern clinical environments for communities across the West Midlands.
