Project Description
Client:
Aviation Skills Partnership / Norse Development Company
Project Design:
Barron & Smith Architects
The project comprises a 4,050m2 building on the south-side of Norwich Airport formed from the modification and refurbishment of an existing Type C hangar to accommodate up to 20 classrooms, 6 engineering workshops and an Emulation Zone facility that will house an A320 aircraft and potentially a helicopter to provide “real-life” training for aviation engineers.
The International Aviation Academy, Norwich builds on the success of the aviation academy constructed for Flybe in Exeter and is one of a number that are planned to be developed throughout the UK. The client, Aviation Skills Partnership has developed industry tailored vocational apprenticeship and degree courses that provide the skills needs for a career in aviation and the Emulation Zone housing an A320 aircraft provides a unique ability to train engineers and cabin crew on an actual aircraft.
